I've been swamped with work over the last few years, and my blog writing has taken a significant back seat for far too long! As ChatGPT has been in the news a lot recently, I wanted to see how the tool from OpenAI might be useful in my area of Digital Analytics.

I'm currently working with a client, where I manage the Google Analytics implementation for all of their European web sites. This now involves migrating over 100 sites from Universal Analytics 360 to GA4 360 - not a simple or straighforward process.

I've wanted to write a blog article about the process and to talk a bit about GA4 in general, but I'm struggling with time - enter ChatGPT!

For anyone not familiar with ChatGPT, I'll let the tool to it's own introduction...

Ok, so how about Attribution Modelling in GA4? Wow, hang on there! Let's just confirm what Attribution Modelling is...

Great, so how does Attribution Modelling differ in GA4 to Universal Analytics?...

I was also surprised to see who well it handled things such as Regular Expressions and working with actual code - whilst the response wasn't quite what i asked for the output was definitely actionable...

I use Google Tag Manager extensively, and have found that ChatGPT can be quite useful here too...

Overall, using ChatGPT has met my specific objective - writing this blog article took me about 15 mins, which included the time to create an account on OpenAI.

It's clear to see how powerful a tool AI based content generation can be for researching a topic. However, it is also clear that you still need to have the underlying skills and knowledge to make productive use of the output.
